Flanagan Clare 2024

Clare Flanagan, MD (she/her)

Position: PGY-1

Clare grew up in New Providence, New Jersey alongside her 6 siblings (she is the 2nd oldest!).  She attended Boston College, where she started out as an English major but soon discovered an interest in biology.  She was inspired to pursue a career in medicine after shadowing her family’s pediatrician the summer after her freshman year!  While in college, she spent time as a volunteer at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston, MA) during the school year, and Children’s Specialized Hospital (New Brunswick, NJ) during the summer.

After graduation, Clare worked as a medical scribe in an Emergency Department in New Jersey, before attending Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School right in her home state!  In medical school, she developed a passion for medical education while serving as a peer tutor for other medical students.  She graduated with a Distinction in Medical Education after completing a scholarly project on the recent change in Step 1 score reporting.  She hopes to continue to be involved in medical education as a pediatrics resident!

Outside of medicine, Clare is an avid runner.  She completed 2 marathons and a 50K while in medical school!  Clare also loves her Peloton (shout out to her fav instructor, Camila Ramon!).  Clare was charmed by the friendliness of the Brown pediatrics leadership and residents during her interview day.  She is excited to explore the chai and matcha scene in Providence.  And, of course, she can’t wait to visit the beaches in the beautiful Ocean State!
