Hawa is a New York City native, born and raised in the Bronx with family roots in The Gambia, West Africa. She attended The City College of New York with a major in Psychology, and attended medical school at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. Hawa has a niche in social advocacy which started with her work in the NYC Department of Health. She continues to apply public health principles to help understand, explain and address health inequities. Medicine for her is a bridge towards this. After doing a PICU rotation with Brown, she is excited to join the Brown residency team, as it truly feels like a family to her. She is confident that her training will complement her goals to become a Pediatrician who work towards social advocacy and eliminating health inequities. On a lighter note, she loves mentorship, Afro-beats music and food!
