Mehtap was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. She graduated from Marmara University School of Medicine and completed pediatrics residency in the same city. She was then accepted to pediatric allergy immunology fellowship. During her fellowship, patients who require advanced work up for immunodeficiency diagnosis were being referred to Immunodeficiency Centers in other cities. Mehtap went to Texas Children’s Hospital for 6 months to get advanced training in immunodeficiencies. When she returned to her program, she worked with the Hematology Flow Cytometry Laboratory to establish a diagnostic immunodeficiency panel. Since then, hospital was able to run the advanced testing for immunodeficiency and patients no longer needed to travel long distances for evaluation. After completing Allergy and Immunology fellowship in Turkey, Mehtap decided to move to US to pursue her career in severe asthma. Mehtap completed pediatric pulmonology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is joining Brown family to complete her US training and become a board eligible pediatric pulmonologist. Mehtap has experience in clinical research, especially on Asthma and wants to continue her career in an academic institution. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two kids. She likes cycling, swimming and doing outdoor activities with her family and friends.
